KAVA, a plant whose root is commonly drunk in Pacific Island countries was introduced into NT in late 1981. The question then was "can Kava use replace that of alcohol and thereby alcohol-related harms in Indigenous Australians".. this is an interesting review about this. The jury is out but the community controlled aspect of KAVA use in NT is good to read about.....
