I came across this website recently www.knowtheisigns.com having stumbled across this video of someone drunkenly dancing at a wedding.
The video is a promo for the site the site is created by Heineken.
Inside the site (check it out) you are transported to a typical bar, where you're encouraged to spot those whose nights may turn out a little sourly. The characters typify the reactions that people have when they drink too much - being an exhibitionist, picking fights, crying, even falling asleep.
The site has apparently been created to help Heineken customers to know the signs, so they can prevent themseleves and their mates from becoming a burden on the rest of the group. Either that or it will encourage boozers to rip the pi55 out of each other.
I think it is well intended, and nicely executed. Instead of "enjoy responsibly" being just another compulsary strapline... they've brought it to life.
I am not sure that my mates and I always end up looking after one particular person... we seem to pool our alcoholically challenged brains together to get home safely. But sometimes the effects of drugs deals us a different kind of hand. Taking a couple of pills can be unpredictable... but some of the effects have been pretty similar to the Heineken tragics - sleeping, stumbling, crying.
I used to recommend doing 'cheeky halves' in order to monitor the effect the pills were having. But that doesn't always work. Pacing lagers is more reliable than pacing pills.
So... to 'spot the signs' of a wayward night on drugs... do we need drug education? Or do we need the tools with which to check what we're popping?
