Say no to coke, save a tree?

Most of us make choices around drugs that are based primarily around things like where we're going, who we're going with, how much money we have, if we have to work the next day, our mood and generally what type of night we'd like.

Here's another potential consideration - an article has reported on an initiative between police and Greenpeace in the UK, that educates young people on the environmental impact of cocaine production. For example, rainforest deforestation caused by land being cleared, toxic chemicals being dumped in the forest, and rare plants and animals being poisoned.

Their aim is to make taking cocaine will become politically incorrect, similar to how wearing fur has been made politically incorrect.

What do you think? Would this make you impact your decision to use cocaine (or any other drug)??

I think this is a very good point, especially as some groups who take drugs would consider themselves to be very socially consious.  Another thing people dont think about when they buy thier drugs is that they are probably funding violent criminal gangs or ever terorisim.

I certainly know some people who choose to avoid or cease drug use so that they would not be supporting criminal gangs and unethical treatment of both humans and the environment. The other argument, however, is that if drug supply was regulated, these problems would also be regulated. So, for others, the solution is not to avoid/cease drug use, but to campaign for the end of a black market for drugs.

As I've gotten older, I consider the ethics of most items that I consume - as I became more aware of the what I support when I make a purchase. We should think this way about everything we do - but I think it's something only the minority do today.
