Assessing your drug use

Assessing your drug use - is it becoming a problem?

If you are taking drugs, it is possible that you feel you can manage the effects of the drugs and that you can deal with the impact it has on your life. Taking drugs might make you feel good and there might not even appear to be any consequences to taking the drug.

Sometimes different, negative impacts might appear over time and as circumstances in your life or your usage of drugs change. So, you might find it useful to stop and re-examine the impact of your drug use on your life now and then to see if this is changing.

There are many aspects of your life where your drug or alcohol use can have a negative impact. These include:

Relationships and life

Physical health

Mental health

Safety and violence

Work and study

If any of these aspects of your life are being negatively affected by your drug and alcohol use, you should explore ways of managing your drug use to minimise or stop the negative impacts it is having.
