If a friend says they have a problem

What to do if your friend says they have a problem

Acknowledging drug use are a problem can be a big step. If someone has come to you saying they have a problem:

Listen and offer support

Sometimes simply listening and being supportive is the most important role in helping someone work through a problem. Try not to get angry with your friend.

Help find professional support

If they are willing, you might also to be able to assist them in finding out what help is available in your local area.

Your local general practitioner, counsellor, hospital, community health centre, Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS) or youth worker are people who may be able to help. Check out the Who can help section for more info.
